In Mexican cultures, Quinceaneras are a huge deal. In ours, not so much. I mean, we love the idea of sweet sixteen, but Caucasian Americans rarely celebrate the passage into womanhood as well as others do.
This, my friends, was challenged by the Cunningham clan tonight right here in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Zoe’s Sweet Sixteen birthday party was every bit as elegant as most wedding receptions. I teased her mom and asked her if she was saving up for the wedding already. It’s going to be hard to top this celebration.
