One of the most fun things about beach sessions is how different every single session looks because of the weather, light, and ever changing beach scenery. I never get tired of doing family beach photography. It is captivating and gorgeous every time! I offer 4 different options all year long. While sunrise and sunset sessions are my most popular and are taken first, I also offer the other options as well. This blog article is written to help you choose the session that is best for your family.

You’d never believe that I shot a wedding the morning before this session standing in the rain. We had texted back and forth about whether or not to move forward with their session, and we decided to take the risk. I am so glad we did.
I’ve never seen a coastal sunset like the one we were given this April evening. There was an unusual cloud cover that magnified the sun and cast an unusual orange glow. By the end of our session, a fine, Gulf mist had risen into the air, and it made it look almost as if we were in the desert instead of on the beach.
Isn’t this couple gorgeous?! They were so natural and kind-hearted. I think going to Gulf Shores for your maternity photos should definitely be a thing. What do you think?

I absolutely love working with large families. I love it even more when they come and do their photos at our family owned farm, Redemption Square Farm. I really enjoy getting to see kids experience what life is really like here.
Many moms are worried when they reach out and share how large their family is, but I can assure you. It's not a problem- it is a blessing.
Big families are so FUN. More kids mean more connection, more stories to tell, and so much more love. As you can see, we all had a good time together.

Working with couples who have flown down to vacation on the Gulf Coast is one of my favorite parts of my job as a Gulf Shores destination photographer. I get to meet so many incredible couples who are excited about making beautiful memories together. It makes my job so much fun!
Heather wanted to surprise her husband with a sunset couples session on the beach, and I was totally down for it! I absolutely love the color scheme they chose for their session. His pink shirt and her pastel blue dress were perfect for the cotton candy skies we were given during our time together.
Even though they are both used to much, much colder temperatures living up north, their session was chillier than we anticipated during their stay in Gulf Shores. Once we got started, we forgot about the cold. We had so much in common as we chatted about life and things they loved. They are huge animal lovers! They have more than one dog and a small flock of chickens back home. Yep, my kind of people.
Even though the Gulf was pretty windy during our session, it just made the waves dreamier in the background. We were all a little wet by the end of our time together. I think you’ll agree as you look through these images that it was worth it. It’s hard to beat a beach session whether its in Gulf Shores or Dauphin Island.
The beach is my happy place.

Rowland Family's Beach Photography Session on Dauphin Island
You knew it wasn’t going to be too long before I shared another Dauphin Island beach session again, right?!
Originally, this family had hired me to do a large multigenerational family beach session on Dauphin Island at the end of December. When part of their family had to be quarantined and had to miss their trip, this mother and her daughters still decided to make the best of it and have the beach vacation they had dreamed of. I was lucky enough to still be able to share in their island adventure and help them create fun memories together.

“One must maintain. little bit of summer, even in the middle of winter.” -Henry David Thoreau
The best way to do just that is to vacation on Dauphin Island at the end of December. This multigenerational family photography session was such a joy to capture. This family traveled all the way from Kansas hoping for warm weather, and they were met with an unexpected cold front that we jokingly said they brought with them. In spite of the chillier than anticipated temperatures, each family braved the brisk weather and dressed with their own style that blended beautifully into the full group portraits we captured.
It’s my privilege and joy to work as a destination photographer all year long, often at the beach.

I’m here to prove that a rainy day does not have to mean rescheduling your family portrait session if you can get creative with your location. This session was definitely that.
This sweet family had already rescheduled once, so I was determined to make it work when the forecast was not in our favor, and after talking together, we chanced being rained out. I had checked the radar all day and thought we'd have a 10 minute window with no rain for natural light photos right before sunset.
We started our session underneath a bridge while it was still raining! Yes, you read that correctly.

Prepare to have baby fever. The Woods family came to Redemption Square Farm for an outdoor lifestyle family session and indoor newborn photo shoot in our white shiplap farmhouse. They were the happiest family, and it was a joy to spend time with them as we all celebrated their sweet newborn girl’s birth. They were literally glowing with excitement.
As a mom to three kids, I am very familiar with how those first weeks feel after you have a baby. I am very sure I never looked as good after having a baby as this mom did. Both of these parents made having a newborn look effortless.

It has been so much fun to have so many beautiful families on Redemption Square Farm this fall for their family photography sessions. Tabatha surprised Dustin with a gift certificate for a session here last Christmas, and I was able to work them in when an out of town session canceled last minute. It’s been a while since I have seen their family, and I couldn’t believe how big their kids were now!
Tabatha did a great job making sure everyone was well dressed and ready for our time together. Don’t you love the jewel toned wardrobe styling?!
Mississippi weather can be unpredictable. You never know if you will have sunshine or clouds, and one is not better than the other. You can get beautiful portraits with both!

Ah, it felt so good to be back on Dauphin Island again for this beautiful family’s photography beach session. As a Dauphin Island photographer/Gulf Shores photographer, I love to capture happy families on the beach any chance I get. Beach photography isn’t for the faint of heart. Your session starts with harsh light but don’t be fooled. It is better to start too early than too late. Once your session starts, the sun starts moving down quickly, and before it’s over, the sky dances in a myriad of glorious colors that are a sight to behold.

Say hello to the Hansen family. This happy family was supposed to do their session the evening before Hurricane Zeta came through and trashed the Coast. We waited until the last minute to reschedule, because hurricanes are unpredictable. When it was clear we were going to be rained out, we moved their session to the end of November.
I think all of the trouble was worth it, because look at the gorgeous fall evening we were given instead. Large families are so much fun to work with. I love seeing how they interact with each other and capturing their connection with my camera. You see the little guy on the right. He was determined to get to Grandpa the whole time. Make sure you see the photo of them together at the end…. soooo cute!

This family was absolutely a joy to serve. I know I say that again and again, but I truly mean it. 2020 has been hard as a small business owner. There’s no getting around it. However, it has also brought some of the best clients into my life, and I will always be grateful. Families like this make it a delight to be a Gulf Coast photographer.
Not only did their mom do an absolutely amazing job styling the entire family, they were so prepared for their session. That’s saying a lot, because they don’t live here locally. They drove a good distance to make their session happen! That’s commitment.
Everyone was happy and eager to work with me to give their parents the most combinations of photos possible during our time together. They were so trusting and easy going as I made suggestions and as we played prompting games to give them these images.
